C3: THINGS ARE CONNECTED OUR BRILLIANCE IS TO FIGURE OUT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THEM AND MAKE THEM WORK FOR A BETTER WORLD

 Hello Class without walls,

welcome to another step where I would like to share my observation of our daily life on how we solve the daily challenges.

Our life from one point of view is not perfect because we are not living in a utopia village. our societies has a lot of challenges ranging from crime, water shortages, Tsunami to traffic jams. With these day to day life challenges, solving them brings an immense sense of gratification, waking up every day going for the exciting or ugly challenges that we are sure we can and some aren’t sure that we can solve. Can you imagine living a life where everything is perfect and you don’t need to think or work, I mean everything is perfect and in order. A smooth life that you are breathing fresh air and nothing else troubles you, because doing anything would involve thinking and doing something whose results bring excitement “dopamine release”, I would assume it is a boring life!

Again Let’s say, you are at the phone technician's office you don’t know what is wrong with it and immediately the technician realizes that the problem with your phone is just a battery problem or wire disconnection. In this scenario, it can be considered that it is the understanding of the connection between the function of the phone and the battery or wire. One common theme seen in solving these daily challenges is to figure out the connections between things. Generally, for the thing or particular system to work out, it has its components that form a certain relationship for the things to work. It is this simple fundamental structure exist from solving simple challenges like phone defects to big economics problem or space exploration. It is our brilliance to understand the connection of things and make them for better world like phone technician and many other duties

understanding certain phenomenon or making connections when results have already been made by someone may seem obvious but it is way more difficult to produce the original results than it sounds or seems. It takes deep thought and understanding of the disconnected things, it takes mundane work to do try and error to figure out how to connect things out of myriads of choices, some challenges take years. let’s take a looks at perhaps the most familiar example of Thomas Edison with his 10,000 failed experiments to the discovery of the bulb. it took 10,000 experiments that have failed to connect things to get the first functioning bulb. it takes courage to move from failure to failure to make things happen. In the Edison example, I would assume his co-workers believed he must have been crazy.

Life is made up of many connected piece whose beauty depends on our brilliance to connect them.

Understanding or experience often comes in the form of learning/training thus we have doctors, engineers, etc that take a deep understanding of the things or some level of experience to figure out disconnection of things in a short period. It is this understanding that separates experts and non-experts. the grateful moment when you just say a few symptoms and your doctor figures out the connection of your symptoms and says it this disease with a prescription that gives immediate relief. if what people do would be put in simple terms would be “I make the connection between A and B to solve problem C, therefore I am an expert in solving problem C to make a better world”, The case of phone technician would say “I make the connection between different functional parts of the phone and function of the phone, therefore, I solve phone problems”. It is this figuring disconnection of things that makes careers.

Vision and imagination are key components to figuring out the connections of things at the frontiers of problem-solving or advancing innovation. at times these visions might look madness to some people because at the far distance the projection of vision doesn’t seem to make sense at all. That’s why Steve jobs with apple’s strategy of “thinking different” said “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.. “.

There are some connections at the frontiers of innovation that have been solved by the odd way of thinking. The compelling visions and burning desire that others don’t seem to understand hence think pioneers, visionaries seem crazy. For example, the CRISPR cas 9 technology which is used to make genetic changes in the body cells, projections consider it may be applied to make genetic changes in human body, for example, someone with sickle cell a genetic disease previously could not be treated but with this technology can fix to each cell, hence sickle cell can be treated. you know what it originates from the bacteria immune system. of course it, takes vision and being crazy enough to transform that bacteria system to make genetic changes to the human being. the modern-day example can be cited to Elon Musk with his vision to mars and space missions that were strongly criticized for lending money for something that seemed could not be efficiently possible ”waste of government money on futile projects” but today it is self-evident that it is possible Figuring out some connections takes sustained vision and going through against odds. It is this connection of things from totally different spaces that govern the creative ideas and beautiful products.

Thus the beauty of life is using everyone's brilliance into solving problems by connecting the things based upon individual understanding, imagination. It is like painting the walls in different colors, like everyone painting the same wall with different colors. Everyone has a certain brilliance in a particular area thus trying to connect the things “solving the challenges” for a better world. It is either medical field, Engineering, security, music, economics, and much more. In today’s world with advanced technologies and its facilities, I think it is just the beginning. the bubble of creativity and connection is still expanding. people still will figure out many connections in the future to make life better. there are myriads of connections that are yet to happen. individual expertise or work that solves a problem in our imperfect societies to make a better world.

Lastly, as the class without walls what connection are trying to make, yes our daily life is full of figuring out how things are connected then we connect or disconnect. just a quick tip, if you are not sure, in a dilemma of how to figure out things, try vitamin P, yes I mean "vitamin people", it is an essential ingredient for our survival and thriving. better teams are well connected, try to reach out to some people, different people have different background hence different perception of things thus see different solutions. studies suggest that the more diverse groups are more creative because people from different backgrounds when they see the same problem they see different opportunities.

Stay connected, stay strong, stay hard !

Adios !
